Just as one of the fastest growing African Tech firm Alluvium did in Seventy secondary school teachers of Secondary schools on digital skills, teachers from 40 public schools across Lagos State have completed practical training in Artificial Intelligence, AI, as part of efforts to strengthen digital literacy and prepare students for emerging technology opportunities. The one day pilot workshop was organised by Paradigm Initiative in partnership with the United States Artificial Intelligence Institute and Smait Maven, with approval from the Lagos State Ministry of Education.
The training focused on basic AI concepts, the use of generative AI tools for lesson planning, data privacy and ethical technology practices. Organisers said the initiative aims to equip teachers with the knowledge and skills needed to integrate responsible AI education into classrooms.
Senior Programmes Officer and Digital Inclusion Lead at Paradigm Initiative, Ihueze Nwobilor, said teachers play a critical role in shaping students’ understanding of technology. She noted that empowering educators with AI skills would help learners develop critical thinking and innovation abilities.
The participating teachers, mainly from computer studies and technology fields, were selected to become peer instructors who will extend the training to other teachers and students in their schools. Organisers said the programme provides a model for expanding AI literacy initiatives across Africa as automation continues to reshape the future of work.
