YouTube TV is preparing to significantly expand its multiview feature, giving subscribers the ability to watch any content they choose on a single screen. The update was announced by YouTube chief executive Neal Mohan in his annual letter, where he revealed plans for a fully customisable multiview experience designed to offer deeper personalisation across sports, news, entertainment, and other genres.

The multiview feature was first introduced in 2023, primarily for live sports, allowing viewers to watch up to four games at the same time. It was later extended to news and weather, but remained limited to a small list of preselected channels such as CNN, MSNBC, HGTV, and Food Network. More recently, YouTube TV began quietly testing broader customisation with a small group of users, enabling them to choose their own channels without restrictions, a move that has now paved the way for a wider rollout.

According to Mohan, the upgraded multiview is aimed at households with varied viewing habits, making it easier for different interests to coexist on one screen. Viewers will be able to activate the feature by pressing the down button on their remote, selecting the multiview option, and then adding up to three additional live channels to their display. The result is a single screen that reflects individual or shared viewing preferences in real time.

Beyond multiview, YouTube TV is also planning to introduce genre based channel packages, giving subscribers more control over what they pay for. These packages are expected to focus on specific interests such as sports, news, family content, or entertainment. While details on pricing and launch dates have not yet been disclosed, the company says more information will be shared in the coming months as it moves closer to implementation.
