Axiado, a Silicon Valley startup, said it raised $100 million to build a new chip for AI data centers. The chip is meant to take up less space and use less power than the older chips now on server boards.

Many servers in AI centers need small management chips to handle instructions and keep the board secure. Axiado wants to combine those older chips into one smaller chip. This matters because data centers are already tight on space as companies pack in more GPUs and cooling gear.

The Axiado chip also uses AI itself. It learns what normal server behavior looks like and can spot unusual actions that might be cyberattacks. The chip can also control cooling systems and cut cooling energy use by as much as half.

Axiado’s founder says the chip can predict how much GPU capacity a task will need. That means servers do not have to run extra hardware when it is not needed, saving more energy and space.
