The Federal Government has launched a digital Housing Fraud Reporting Portal to enable Nigerians report fraudulent activities in housing estates, submit evidence, and track the progress of their complaints.
According to a statement by the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (FMHUD), the platform, accessible at https://reports.fmhud.gov.ng, provides citizens with a safe and user-friendly channel to flag fraudulent practices in the real estate sector. The Ministry said complaints will be reviewed in collaboration with professional bodies, law enforcement agencies, and the judiciary.
Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, explained that the initiative aligns with the 2012 National Housing Policy, which mandates stronger regulation of the housing industry, certification of estate developers, and protection of citizens from fraud. He stressed that the policy also requires an efficient administrative and legal framework to monitor housing delivery and ensure that professionals in the built environment are properly registered.
In addition to the fraud reporting portal, the Ministry introduced the Contract Performance and Compliance Project Monitoring System (CPCPMS). This platform enables real-time monitoring of housing projects, evaluates contractors’ performance, and provides a central repository for project documents, payment certificates, and Bills of Quantities.
Dr. Marcus Amiolemen, Deputy Director and Head of ICT at the Ministry, noted that both platforms reflect government’s commitment to transparency and were developed in partnership with the EFCC to ensure effective tracking of cases.
The launch featured technical demonstrations by Freestone Investments Limited and Prunedge Development Technologies Limited, with the Ministry warning that fraudulent practices in the housing sector will no longer be tolerated.
The Federal Government has previously deployed digital solutions to improve oversight, including the Renewed Hope Housing Online Portal launched in May 2024 to manage the marketing and sale of homes under the Renewed Hope Cities and Estate Programme. With the new fraud reporting platform, the Ministry aims to foster accountability, enhance service delivery, and strengthen trust in Nigeria’s real estate sector.
