After years of user demand, productivity platform Notion has introduced offline mode across its desktop and mobile applications. The update, announced on Tuesday, allows users to view, edit, and create notes without an internet connection, solving one of the most persistent frustrations associated with the cloud-first app. Pages can now also be downloaded for offline access, with changes syncing automatically once users reconnect to the internet.
While the offline mode offers a significant upgrade, Notion noted that certain blocks such as embeds, forms, and buttons will not function without connectivity. Subscribers on Plus, Business, and Enterprise plans will benefit from automatic downloads of recently viewed and favorite pages, though this feature can be managed or disabled via a new “Offline” menu in the settings panel.
Notion’s CEO, Ivan Zhao, explained that the delay in launching offline functionality stemmed from the app’s complex database structure. Because Notion stores information in a variety of content blocks, the company had to build a robust conflict resolution system to address scenarios where multiple users edit the same document offline.
The rollout marks a major milestone for Notion, which has grown into one of the most widely used productivity apps globally. With the addition of offline support, the company is aiming to solidify its place among professionals and teams who rely on consistent access to their notes and workflows, regardless of internet availability.
