Adobe Inc. has launched its first standalone artificial intelligence mobile application, Firefly, marking a major step into the booming world of AI-generated content for social media. Available on both iOS and Android, the app brings Adobe’s proprietary AI model to users’ smartphones and allows seamless generation of shareable images on the go.

The mobile version of Firefly will initially feature Adobe’s in-house AI model, with support for basic image generation offered at no additional cost to subscribers. Access to more advanced Adobe models and those from partner firms like OpenAI and Google will come at a premium, with pricing aligned to Firefly’s web service, starting at $10 per month.

Adobe is also expanding its AI ecosystem through Firefly Boards, a web-based product that integrates models from partners such as Ideogram, Luma AI, Pika, and Runway. However, these partner models are not yet available on the Firefly mobile app. The emphasis on generative image tools highlights Adobe’s commitment to riding the wave of AI-driven creativity, which has surged with the viral popularity of stylized AI images like those from OpenAI.

The San Jose-based software giant had earlier introduced AI capabilities in its mobile version of Photoshop. With Firefly, it reaffirms its pledge that the AI is trained only on content Adobe holds legal rights to, a move aimed at avoiding copyright complications. The company also offers users indemnity against copyright infringement claims stemming from AI-generated content.

Ely Greenfield, Adobe’s Chief Technology Officer for Digital Media, emphasized that trust remains a central pillar of the company’s AI offering. “Even for many of our individual customers, that promise of commercial safety and the story about how Firefly is trained continues to be a really important differentiator,” he noted, as Adobe seeks to balance cutting-edge creativity with legal peace of mind.
