Social media platform X began showing signs of recovery on Saturday following a major service disruption that affected thousands of users across the United States. According to Downdetector.com, a website that monitors online outages, reports of disruptions had significantly dropped to around 1,041 by 7:42 p.m. Eastern Time, down from an earlier peak of more than 10,000.
Downdetector’s statistics are drawn from user-submitted complaints and various status sources, meaning the actual scale of the outage could differ. The cause of the latest disruption was not immediately confirmed, though the platform had experienced a similar outage in March, which owner Elon Musk attributed to a cyberattack.
In a recent post on X, Musk acknowledged the ongoing technical challenges, saying critical operational improvements were necessary. He noted that this week’s downtime was a clear sign of the urgent need to enhance the platform’s infrastructure and reliability. Musk had also previously committed to dedicating full attention to his ventures, including X, xAI, Tesla, and the upcoming Starship launch.
The billionaire entrepreneur, who reportedly spent close to $300 million supporting Donald Trump’s campaign and other Republicans last year, revealed that he has returned to working round-the-clock. “Back to spending 24/7 at work and sleeping in conference/server/factory rooms,” Musk posted, reinforcing his intent to focus intensely on his companies amid ongoing technical challenges.
