Moniepoint Inc. has joined forces with AfriGoPay Financial Services Limited (AFSL), a subsidiary of the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS), to promote digital payments and expand the adoption of AfriGO Card, Nigeria’s National Domestic Card Scheme.
The partnership is expected to introduce a tap-to-pay solution, enabling users to complete transactions by simply tapping their contactless card or NFC-enabled device over a compatible terminal.
Industry experts believe this collaboration aligns with Nigeria’s cashless policy and will significantly boost financial inclusion. Moniepoint, known for its robust payment infrastructure and extensive agent network, plans to deploy five million AfriGO Cards across the country. The fintech firm has built a reputation for empowering small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and driving digital transactions, particularly in underserved areas.
AfriGO Card is designed to provide a secure, cost-effective alternative to international payment cards while reducing reliance on foreign exchange for transaction settlements. By ensuring data sovereignty and minimizing transaction costs, the card scheme is expected to support local businesses and strengthen Nigeria’s digital payment ecosystem.
Moniepoint’s CEO, Tosin Eniolorunda, described the initiative as a major step toward financial empowerment. “The Moniepoint/AfriGO Card is more than just a payment tool; it’s a gateway to financial access for millions of Nigerians,” he said. Similarly, Ebehijie Momoh, CEO of AfriGoPay, emphasized that the partnership would enhance financial service delivery by offering merchants seamless transaction processing and instant settlements.
