The Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory (LSMTL) has launched an online registration portal aimed at improving the testing process for building materials across the state.
The initiative, unveiled during the eGIS Retreat 2.0 held at 21st Century Technologies, Lagos, is designed to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and transparency in construction material quality assurance.
Speaking at the event, the General Manager of LSMTL, Mrs. Olayinka Abdul, described the platform as a major step in streamlining the agency’s operations, explaining that the software application would capture and track building data, benefiting stakeholders such as clients and agency officials, while ensuring long-lasting structures across the state.

The initiative aligns with LSMTL’s focus on improving building safety through data-driven insights. According to Abdul, the agency will leverage geotechnical investigations to provide detailed recommendations on appropriate construction practices based on specific locations. She emphasized that this approach would foster a more resilient and sustainable built environment in Lagos.
The online portal also promotes transparency and accountability, particularly in the payment process. Integrated with the Alpha Beta Portal, the system allows users to track test progress and make seamless payments. Abdul noted that this would reduce manual errors, accelerate processes, and uphold high standards of quality in material testing services.
Dr. Olajide Babatunde, Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on eGIS and Urban Development, commended the initiative, stating that it demonstrates the government’s commitment to using technology to improve urban development. He highlighted Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s focus on enhancing public trust through innovative solutions and collaborative platforms.
