Telegram has introduced a suite of new monetization tools aimed at boosting earnings for content creators on its platform. The latest update includes monthly subscription options and enhanced support features, marking a significant expansion in Telegram’s creator economy.

The new monthly subscription feature allows users to pay for exclusive content via Telegram’s digital currency, Stars. Creators can now generate invite links for their channels, granting access to premium or early content in a manner similar to platforms like Patreon. Subscribers will pay using Stars, which can be exchanged for Toncoin cryptocurrency rewards or subsidized advertising opportunities. Telegram will take a commission from these transactions, though the exact percentage has not been disclosed.

In addition, Telegram is launching Star Reactions, a feature that enables users to directly support their favorite creators. This feature is reminiscent of YouTube’s “Super Thanks” and X’s Tips, allowing creators to receive 100% of the Stars given through this new engagement tool.

These updates build on previous initiatives aimed at enhancing creator revenue on Telegram, including paid content sharing and ad revenue sharing, which were introduced earlier this year.

Telegram’s move comes as the platform nears 950 million active users and targets reaching 1 billion users by the end of the year. Founder Pavel Durov has indicated that Telegram is on track for profitability by next year and is exploring the possibility of a public offering.
