A major tech outage brought industries from travel to finance, to a standstill before services gradually started coming back online as the disruption, caused by a content update from CrowdStrike (CRWD.O) for Microsoft Windows hosts, affected numerous sectors worldwide.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk took to social media platform X to announce, “We just deleted CrowdStrike from all our systems, so no rollouts at all.” Musk did not specify which of his companies had taken this action or elaborate on the impact of the outage. He further commented on the severity of the situation, stating, “This gave a seizure to the automotive supply chain,” in response to a post by Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella regarding the outage.

The automotive giant reportedly sent some production employees home early during the night shift at its Austin, Texas, and Sparks, Nevada, facilities, according to a report by Business Insider.

CrowdStrike, acknowledging the issue, stated that it was working closely with customers affected by a defect found “in a single content update for Windows hosts.” As industries slowly recover from the disruption, the incident highlights the critical reliance on cybersecurity firms and the far-reaching consequences of technical mishaps in our interconnected world.
