The genesis of this dispute lies in the regulatory framework implemented by the Lagos State government in 2020, which mandated ride-hailing platforms to grant backend access to user trip and location data. However, recent developments have escalated the standoff. Just two weeks ago, the government intensified its demands, requiring ride-hailing companies to share real-time trip details under the threat of sanctions for non-compliance.
