Temu, a rapidly growing e-commerce platform, was featured at Google I/O 2025 for its early adoption of Google’s new Web UI primitives—advanced APIs aimed at enhancing web interactivity, performance, and responsiveness. With 25 million downloads in April 2025, Temu ranked among the most downloaded shopping apps globally, making it a fitting case study at the tech giant’s flagship developer conference.

The conference spotlighted new Web UI primitives that simplify the creation of key components like Carousels, Drop-down Menus, and Tooltips. Temu stood out for its innovative implementation of these tools, helping to deliver a more dynamic and seamless shopping experience. Paul Kinlan, head of Chrome Developer Relations, praised Temu for setting a high standard in applying the new web technologies.

By integrating the MPA View Transitions API, Temu reported a 10% increase in session duration and a 15% rise in page views. Further enhancements from APIs like Popover and Anchor Positioning led to faster load times, reduced CPU usage, and improved device battery efficiency. Google also highlighted its collaboration with Temu on next-generation features as part of the platform’s proactive approach to technology.

Beyond web innovations, Temu has optimized its app for devices like the Google Pixel Fold and adopted features such as Android’s “dialog full-screen dim.” Recognized as an Editors’ Choice app on the Google Play Store and a top Apple-recommended app of 2024, Temu now operates in over 90 countries. Its presence at Google I/O 2025 affirms its role in shaping the future of online retail through advanced technology adoption.
