Airtel Africa has extended its AI-powered Spam Alert Service to Kenya and Tanzania after a successful rollout in Nigeria. The service, designed to enhance mobile security, automatically detects and labels suspicious SMS messages as “Suspected SPAM,” offering real-time protection against fraud without requiring user intervention or additional apps.

According to Airtel Nigeria CEO, Dinesh Balsingh, the service uses an advanced AI algorithm that analyzes over 250 parameters such as sender behavior, message frequency, and unusual activity patterns. Despite its complexity, the detection process is completed in under two milliseconds while maintaining user privacy by not reading message content.

The Spam Alert Service is automatically activated for all Airtel users, including those using feature phones, ensuring broad accessibility. Early feedback from Nigerian subscribers has been overwhelmingly positive, with many commending its ability to flag harmful messages without disrupting regular communication.

Balsingh emphasized that the innovation reflects Airtel’s commitment to customer safety and digital trust across its African operations. He noted that the service sets a new benchmark in mobile security and aligns with Airtel’s broader strategy of leveraging advanced technologies to enhance user experience and address critical digital challenges.
