TVC News has become the first station in the country to introduce artificial intelligence (AI) news anchors capable of delivering bulletins in five major local languages. The innovation, unveiled by TVC Communications, is aimed at expanding the station’s national reach while using emerging technologies to modernise its newsroom and connect more effectively with audiences across the six geopolitical zones.
According to a statement from the company, the AI-powered anchors will complement human journalists, enhance news delivery, and enable the station to communicate with a more diverse audience in languages such as English, Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo, and Pidgin. “Our AI anchors will complement and assist our human capital assets… and communicate to our diverse audience in the language they understand,” the statement read, describing the initiative as a milestone in Nigeria’s broadcasting history.
The station acknowledged that the introduction of AI could raise concerns around deepfakes and misinformation, but reassured viewers that strict editorial controls, digital watermarking, and human oversight will be in place to maintain accuracy and regulatory compliance. All AI-generated content will be vetted by human editors in accordance with the Nigerian Broadcasting Code.
TVC Communications CEO, Victoria Ajayi, stated that the AI integration is part of a broader strategy to drive innovation and growth in news coverage. She said the move signals a new era where African broadcasters can scale local content, ensure real-time delivery, and embrace technology to meet evolving viewer expectations.
