The U.S. Embassy in Abuja and the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos have announced a major transition to a new visa payment and scheduling system, effective from August 26, 2024. The switch to this new system introduced a service provider aimed at enhancing the efficiency of the visa application process. The newly launched website for U.S. visa services in Nigeria is now live, offering applicants a streamlined platform to manage their visa appointments and payments.
Starting August 26, all visa-related services will be managed through this new website, accessible at https://www.usvisaappt.com/visa/country?country=NG. This platform replaces the previous ustraveldocs.com site. Applicants are advised to familiarize themselves with the new system, as it outlines updated procedures for document submissions and visa appointments.

For those who have already scheduled appointments before the transition, the U.S. Embassy assures that these appointments will proceed as planned. Applicants with pre-existing appointments will receive an automatic email within two business days, detailing how to set up their accounts on the new platform. It is important for applicants to monitor their email, including spam folders, for this crucial communication.
Regarding visa fee payments, the transition brings significant changes. The option to make cash payments through GT Bank has been discontinued. Moving forward, all visa payments must be made online through the new website, aligning with modern payment methods. While GT Bank’s internet banking option might still be available, it will no longer hold a monopoly over online visa fee payments.
The new system promises several enhancements for applicants. Updated locations for document drop-off and pickup will be provided, ensuring greater convenience. Additionally, the customer service experience has been revamped, with more responsive assistance available through the new website. The platform also offers an improved process for scheduling and managing visa interviews, aiming to make the overall experience more efficient.

Applicants are encouraged to visit the new website and familiarize themselves with the updated interface and procedures. After setting up their accounts, they should print all necessary documents, including appointment confirmations. Staying informed through regular checks of the website for updates on document drop-off locations and other important announcements is essential.
The launch of this new visa system marks a significant improvement in the U.S. visa application process for Nigerians, providing a more user-friendly and effective platform for managing visa appointments and payments.
