Aziz Akhannouch, the Head of Government of the Kingdom of Morocco, has underscored the pivotal role of digital technologies in addressing the pressing challenges faced by Africa and unlocking its growth potential. Speaking at the ongoing GITEX AFRICA 2024 in Marrakech, Akhannouch emphasized the importance of technology and innovation in forging alliances for Africa’s future.

The event, which began on Wednesday and will run until Friday, brings together thousands of businesses showcasing tech enterprises and start-ups, alongside over 350 leading investors, more than 600 conference speakers, and 100 government entities. GITEX AFRICA 2024 serves as a nexus for tech experts, innovators, policymakers, government leaders, and investors to explore the continent’s digital opportunities and economic growth prospects.

Akhannouch highlighted that digital transformation is crucial for enhancing cooperation among African countries, providing solutions to the continent’s challenges, and promoting sustainable development. He reiterated the need to embrace and advance digital technologies to fully realize Africa’s potential in the 21st century.

“GITEX AFRICA serves as a key platform for discussing the primary drivers that will enable Africa to establish itself both as a consumer and producer of digital technologies,” Akhannouch stated. He stressed that this event is instrumental in positioning Africa at the forefront of the digital revolution.

Sidi Melyani, the Director General of the Digital Development Agency, highlighted the essential role of collaboration between the private and public sectors in accelerating digital transformation. Melyani noted the collective efforts and achievements in the digital sector, emphasizing the importance of ongoing collaboration to further the nation’s digital agenda.

“The organization of the second edition of GITEX AFRICA Morocco by our country is a valuable opportunity to recognize the considerable efforts made by all digital development actors, whether from ministerial sectors, public organizations, or private sector entities,” Melyani remarked. He stressed that this technological revolution showcases Morocco’s commitment to integrating technology and digitalization into its services.

Trixie LohMirmand, the CEO of KAOUN International, commented on the success of GITEX AFRICA Morocco, noting, “This sequel of GITEX Africa Morocco this year follows the upbeat trend of tech discovery we created last year in its inaugural edition. The global community is witnessing the growing energy, curiosity, and demand for digital advancement from Africa, which is outpacing that of developed continents.”
