Nigerian technology entrepreneur Iyinoluwa Aboyeji has launched Talent Nation, an artificial intelligence talent startup with an ambition to train and place one million African AI engineers with companies worldwide over the next decade. The initiative seeks to connect Africa’s growing pool of technology talent with the rising global demand for AI expertise, positioning skills development and talent placement as potential drivers of economic growth across the continent.

The initiative comes as businesses increasingly integrate artificial intelligence into software development, financial services, healthcare, manufacturing and other sectors. As demand for specialised skills grows, African technology professionals have an opportunity to access international employment markets and contribute to the development of AI solutions. Talent Nation’s model is designed to bridge the gap between available talent and employers seeking professionals with the technical capabilities required to build and deploy AI systems.

For Nigeria, the proposed expansion of AI talent development could create opportunities for young people seeking careers in software engineering, machine learning and related fields. However, achieving the target will require sustained investment in training, reliable digital infrastructure, access to computing resources and partnerships with employers. Training programmes must also equip participants with practical experience and industry relevant skills to ensure they can compete effectively in an evolving global technology market.

The initiative further highlights the importance of developing Africa’s human capital as competition for AI expertise intensifies worldwide. If successfully implemented, Talent Nation could help connect more African engineers with international opportunities while strengthening the continent’s participation in the digital economy. Its long term impact, however, will depend on the quality of its training, the availability of sustainable funding and its ability to convert ambitious enrolment targets into meaningful employment outcomes.
