Former presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress, Adamu Garba, has announced his withdrawal from active political participation, saying he will now devote his full attention to technology and artificial intelligence. Garba made the announcement on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, in a statement shared on his X account, explaining that the demands of his responsibilities at IPI Group Limited had made it difficult to sustain extensive political activities.
Garba, who serves as Executive Chairman of IPI Group Limited and Chief Platform Architect of the company and its subsidiaries, said his current responsibilities require sustained personal attention, technical expertise and a level of involvement that cannot easily be delegated. He said combining those responsibilities with heavy political participation could compromise one of the two areas, prompting him to choose technology as his immediate priority.
The technology entrepreneur said he would concentrate on developing what he described as an AI First enterprise, while using technology to contribute to community development and strengthen society. His decision comes as IPI Group undertakes efforts to rebuild and reposition some of its technology platforms, with Garba expected to play a central role in ensuring that the company’s products align with its AI focused strategy and broader technology ambitions.
Garba’s decision brings a new phase to a political journey that has lasted about nine years. He first declared his interest in the presidency under the APC ahead of the 2019 election and later sought the party’s presidential ticket for the 2023 election before withdrawing from the contest in 2022 over concerns about the N100 million cost of nomination and expression of interest forms. While thanking his political associates, party leaders and supporters for their support over the years, Garba said his commitment to contributing to Nigeria and Africa had not changed, but that technology would now be the platform through which he intends to pursue that goal.
