Nigeria will showcase its growing digital economy and artificial intelligence ambitions at the second edition of GITEX Nigeria, scheduled to hold in Abuja and Lagos from August 31 to September 3, 2026. The event, themed “Beyond Connectivity, The Bridge to Sovereign Innovation,” will bring together government leaders, technology companies, investors, startups and other stakeholders to advance Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda.
The Federal Government said initiatives such as the 3 Million Technical Talent programme and Project BRIDGE are already translating its digital ambitions into practical outcomes. Under 3MTT, about 1.87 million Nigerians have registered across the country’s 774 local government areas, while more than 135,000 people have received training. Project BRIDGE, meanwhile, is being implemented to expand national ICT infrastructure, improve internet penetration and extend high speed connectivity to underserved communities.
GITEX Nigeria will feature the Government Leadership and AI Summit, Tech Expo and Future Economy Conference, Startup Festival and the debut FDX Nigeria, focused on finance and digital assets. Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, said the event would strengthen efforts towards digital sovereignty, technological self reliance and the development of a globally competitive AI powered economy.
The organisers said the gathering would also create opportunities for international partnerships, investment and collaboration aimed at expanding AI infrastructure, strengthening digital resilience and supporting innovation across West Africa. Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo Olu, and NITDA Director General, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, described the event as an opportunity to position Nigeria and Lagos as major hubs for technology, investment and responsible digital innovation.
