Bolt has integrated its ride hailing service with ChatGPT, allowing users to search for, compare fares and request rides through the Artificial Intelligence chatbot before completing their bookings in the Bolt app. The feature is now available across all Bolt markets, including eight African countries where the company operates in more than 90 cities.
The company said the integration gives ChatGPT’s 900 million weekly active users easier access to its ride hailing services as Artificial Intelligence becomes increasingly central to everyday activities such as travel planning. Bolt’s Regional Director for Rides Operations in Africa and South East Asia, Caroline Wanjihia, said the company wants requesting a ride to be as simple as asking an AI assistant for help.
To use the feature, users must enable Bolt through ChatGPT’s Apps directory. The chatbot then provides ride options, fare estimates, expected arrival times and recommended pickup locations before directing users to the Bolt app to complete the booking and payment using their existing payment methods.
Bolt said the integration comes as Africa’s ride hailing market continues to expand and regulatory reforms reshape the industry in countries such as Kenya and South Africa. The company added that it plans to introduce direct payment within ChatGPT in the future, allowing users to complete the entire booking process without leaving the AI platform.
