Nigeria has emerged as Africa’s third most AI ready outsourcing destination, according to the 2026 Ataraxis Global Outsourcing AI Readiness Index. The country ranked 17th globally with a score of 49.15, behind South Africa and Egypt on the continent, but ahead of Kenya and several other outsourcing markets.
The report identified Nigeria’s workforce as one of its greatest strengths, ranking the country sixth globally for AI literacy with a score of 66. Nigerian workers outperformed their counterparts across Europe, Latin America and the rest of Africa, reflecting the growing adoption of artificial intelligence tools among professionals.
Despite this strong performance, the report found that Nigerian businesses are lagging behind. The country ranked 19th for enterprise AI adoption with a score of 34, creating the widest gap between workforce AI skills and business adoption among all 25 countries assessed. Weak performance in AI education also weighed on Nigeria’s overall ranking.
The index noted that while Nigeria’s workforce demonstrated stronger AI capabilities than Egypt’s, the latter edged ahead through better enterprise adoption, population usage and AI education. The study, which analysed data from organisations including Microsoft, OpenAI, LinkedIn, Coursera and GitHub, said Nigeria still outperformed competitors such as Pakistan and Bangladesh in overall AI readiness.
