Sahara Power Group has launched the Sahara Power Technical and Innovation Academy, a new initiative aimed at equipping young Nigerian engineers with practical skills and technical expertise to support sustainable electricity generation across the country.

The programme, which will be delivered in partnership with Egbin Power and First Independent Power Limited, admitted 50 graduate engineers into a ten month intensive training scheme focused on real world power sector operations.

The Academy combines classroom learning with hands on technical training across major generation facilities, exposing participants to plant operations, maintenance systems, safety standards, and industry best practices. Sahara Power Group said the initiative is designed to bridge Nigeria’s technical manpower gap in the electricity sector while preparing a new generation of engineers capable of driving innovation and operational efficiency in power generation.

Speaking on the initiative, Kola Adesina described the Academy as a strategic investment in Nigeria’s energy future and human capital development. According to him, the programme reflects the company’s commitment to developing skilled local professionals who understand the country’s operating environment and can contribute meaningfully to the transformation of the power sector. He added that participants would also undergo practical safety training to ensure they can work confidently and responsibly within industrial environments.

The initiative highlights the growing role of technology driven capacity building in Nigeria’s energy industry, particularly as the country seeks to strengthen electricity infrastructure and improve power supply nationwide. Sahara Power Group noted that top performing trainees would be absorbed into its operations, while others would contribute to the wider labour market, reinforcing the company’s broader goal of supporting long term sustainability, innovation, and indigenous technical expertise within Nigeria’s power ecosystem.
