LekeeLekee, a fast growing mobile first social media platform and super app built for Africa and its diaspora, has officially launched on the App Store, Google Play and the web, including as a Progressive Web App. The unveiling marks a bold entry into the continent’s competitive digital space with a product tailored to low bandwidth environments and underserved communities.

Founder of the platform, Nduka Obaigbena, disclosed the development in a statement on Sunday, describing LekeeLekee as a homegrown innovation designed to meet Africa’s unique digital realities. Developed by ARISE Broadcast and THISDAY Media Group, the app is built to function efficiently on limited data networks while delivering high speed feeds, video sharing, messaging with voice notes, community groups and in built moderation tools.

According to the developers, the platform was conceived as an alternative to dominant global social media platforms which, they argue, often fail to reflect African culture and lived experiences. They described LekeeLekee as fast, fair and open, with a mission to amplify voices rather than extract value from them.

Blending features similar to those found on TikTok, X and WhatsApp, LekeeLekee integrates short form video, microblogging and instant messaging into a single ecosystem tailored specifically for African users at home and abroad. The platform is positioned to foster community engagement while promoting local narratives on a global stage.

The developers emphasized that connectivity challenges across parts of Africa informed the app’s architecture, ensuring low data consumption and adaptability to weaker networks. By leveraging mobile first design principles, the platform seeks to bridge digital access gaps and enhance participation for users who are often excluded from high bandwidth platforms.

Founded by Obaigbena, LekeeLekee represents what its promoters describe as the first global social media platform built out of Africa with an intentional focus on the continent’s culture, creativity and innovation. As it enters the market, industry observers say its success will depend on how effectively it balances technological performance with cultural authenticity in an increasingly crowded digital landscape.
