TikTok has expanded its influence in the global music streaming landscape by integrating YouTube Music into its popular “Add to Music App” feature. This allows users to seamlessly save songs they discover on TikTok directly to their YouTube Music playlists, further closing the gap between viral discovery and active music consumption.
The feature, which now supports major platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Deezer, and SoundCloud, signifies a major step in TikTok’s strategic push to dominate music discovery.
Launched in late 2023, the “Add to Music App” feature enables users to engage more meaningfully with music content on the app by converting fleeting interest into concrete streaming activity. TikTok’s global head of Music Business Development, Tracy Gardner, noted that the tool has generated hundreds of millions of track saves, which have translated into billions of actual streams. This underlines the platform’s growing significance as a powerful funnel driving real results for the music industry.
With the integration of YouTube Music, TikTok users can now click the “Add Song” button beneath any video’s track name and choose to save it to a default “TikTok Songs” playlist on their preferred platform. Once a platform is selected, it becomes the default for future saves, although users retain the option to switch services via TikTok’s settings. This streamlines the process of transitioning from discovery to listening, offering a more interactive and rewarding user experience.
Beyond mere convenience, TikTok is positioning itself as a central player in shaping how people engage with music. With over a billion track saves already recorded through this feature, TikTok is redefining user behaviour from passive video consumption to active music saving. For emerging artists, especially independents, this integration offers a powerful tool for reaching wider audiences and translating viral moments into sustained listenership and revenue.
