Apple has enlisted India’s Tata Group to handle after-sales repairs for its iPhones and MacBook devices in the country, a move that strengthens the conglomerate’s growing role in Apple’s global supply chain.
According to sources familiar with the development, Tata will now oversee repair services previously managed by ICT Service Management Solutions, the Indian subsidiary of Taiwan-based Wistron. The transition will be executed from Tata’s iPhone assembly facility in Karnataka, South India, which already plays a central role in Apple’s local manufacturing push.
This latest partnership milestone comes as Apple continues to diversify its production footprint beyond China, with India emerging as a strategic hub. Tata currently assembles iPhones at three sites across South India, including facilities that manufacture some components.
Industry analysts see Apple’s decision as a vote of confidence in Tata’s capabilities and a strategic step to deepen its presence in the world’s second-largest smartphone market. According to data from Counterpoint Research, Apple sold approximately 11 million iPhones in India last year—up from just 1% market share in 2020 to about 7%—signaling rapid growth and a booming potential for the device repair market.
As Apple’s footprint in India expands, the new repair services arrangement is expected to enhance its customer service infrastructure while reinforcing its long-term localisation strategy. The contract also underscores Tata’s increasing influence within Apple’s operations and its ambition to capture a larger share of the tech giant’s business.
