To meet the escalating demand for cloud services in the era of Artificial Intelligence, Amazon has announced its intention to invest $10 billion in constructing two data center in Mississippi.
This expansion initiative adds to AWS’s recent capacity for enhancements and signifies a proactive response to the surge in businesses leveraging cloud infrastructure for AI development.
As enterprises intensify their focus on AI advancements, the majority of this burgeoning traffic is expected to be managed on cloud platforms provided by the top three vendors globally: Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud (GOOGL.O), and Microsoft’s Azure (MSFT.O).
The Mississippi expansion plan by AWS follows closely on the heels of its announcement of a more than $15 billion investment in Japan and coincides with Google’s decision to establish a $1 billion data center just outside of London.
In collaboration with the Madison County Economic Development Authority (MCEDA), AWS aims to set up multiple data center units across two Madison County industrial parks. This venture is anticipated to generate at least 1,000 new jobs in the state, as highlighted in an Amazon blog post.
Amazon emphasized its commitment to Mississippi, revealing that it has already invested $2.3 billion in the state since 2010, primarily directed towards building infrastructure, including five fulfillment and sortation centers. The new investment underscores AWS’s dedication to fostering economic growth, technological innovation, and job creation within the region.
