Cash App, the popular payment platform owned by Block, Inc., has rolled out a new feature designed to make sending and requesting money faster and more natural: payment links. The feature allows users to create a hyperlink that preloads a requested payment amount, which can then be shared through texts, emails, or social media messages. Recipients can click the link to complete the transaction quickly, making payments more seamless and convenient.
The new links can also be used for recurring or group payments, broadening their practicality. Users access the feature through the payment tab in Cash App, selecting “share link” instead of the traditional “add recipient” option. Once shared, the link allows the payment request to feel more human, giving users the flexibility to add context, humor, or a personal touch to the transaction.
Cash App designed the feature after surveying Gen Z users, who indicated that multiple communications around payments often caused social friction. Kristen Anderson, P2P & Networks Product Lead at Cash App, explained that traditional in-app requests could feel overly formal or even passive-aggressive, and payment links were created to address this issue while keeping transactions direct and simple.
The platform has been steadily expanding its offerings, including an AI chatbot launched late last year to help users manage their finances, and a benefits program with a high-borrowing limit. Payment links build on this strategy, aiming to make Cash App more intuitive and socially friendly for its growing user base.
By introducing this new feature, Cash App continues to focus on convenience and user experience, bridging the gap between digital payments and everyday social interactions, and making money transfers less awkward and more engaging.
