Optus says it has fully restored its National Broadband Network (nbn) services in Brisbane and other parts of Queensland after a major outage earlier this week. The update was posted on the company’s website on Thursday. Optus, which is owned by Singapore-based SingTel, has not yet responded to requests for comments from Reuters, and SingTel also has not issued a statement.

The outage, which occurred on Wednesday, left almost 100,000 Optus customers in Brisbane and southeast Queensland unable to call “000,” Australia’s emergency hotline. The problem affected both internet services and some landline connections, making it impossible for some residents to reach emergency responders. Local media reported that this caused significant concern across the region.

Reports also said an Optus spokesperson explained on Brisbane radio that the disruption was caused by a failure in one of the company’s network servers. The company has not given further details about the cause but confirmed that services are now back online.
