Canon has reaffirmed its commitment to Africa’s creative industry by hosting an exclusive Lagos screening of Racket Queen, a short film by Nigerian filmmaker Nora Awolowo. The visually captivating film, shot entirely on the Canon EOS C400 cinema camera, explores themes of resilience, determination, and triumph.

The private event brought together media professionals, filmmakers, and Canon’s creative community to celebrate African storytelling and the power of visual expression.

The screening featured two sessions—a morning media preview and an evening industry gathering—each designed to foster collaboration and dialogue among Nigeria’s filmmaking community. Canon also used the platform to unveil the EOS C50, a compact and affordable cinema camera aimed at supporting emerging filmmakers and expanding access to professional film production tools.

Awolowo’s Racket Queen tells the inspiring story of a young girl who pursues her passion for tennis against all odds, with support from her mother. Featuring standout performances from Pamilerin Ayodeji, Tunbosun Aiyedehin, Kayode Jnr Ojuolape, and Folu Storms, the film mirrors the spirit of perseverance that defines many African narratives. Awolowo expressed gratitude for Canon’s continued partnership, noting that the EOS C400 camera gave her the creative flexibility and technical precision needed to bring her vision to life.

Canon’s B2B Director for Africa, Fashad, praised the resilience and passion of Nigerian creatives, emphasising Canon’s role in nurturing talent through its Innovation, Customer, and Employee Experience (ICE) strategy.

Over the past decade, Canon has played a pivotal role in advancing Nigeria’s visual industry through collaborations with global platforms and hands-on training for creators. Racket Queen, beyond its sports theme, stands as a heartfelt reflection of Nigeria’s enduring creative energy and storytelling excellence.
