Spotify has introduced a new feature that allows Premium subscribers to personalise the flow of their playlists with seamless transitions once exclusive to professional DJs. The tool, now available to most Premium users worldwide, lets subscribers automatically insert transitions between songs or manually fine-tune them using presets such as fade, rise, or blend. Users can also dig deeper by adjusting volume, EQ, and effects, with waveform and beat data helping pinpoint the smoothest entry points.
To simplify the experience for beginners, Spotify displays the key and beats per minute (BPM) of each track, removing much of the guesswork involved in blending. Activating the feature is straightforward—users can open a playlist, tap “Mix” on the toolbar, and either allow the app to generate transitions or customise them manually. Finished mixes can be saved, shared with friends, or co-edited with other Premium subscribers.
While the feature is especially effective for electronic genres like house and techno, Spotify says it can enhance any playlist, whether created for workouts, parties, or long drives. Importantly, the option is flexible—listeners can easily switch off the “Mix” function if they prefer the traditional playlist format. With nearly nine billion playlists already created on the platform, the update is aimed at giving users more control over how they experience and share music.
The rollout underscores Spotify’s broader strategy of strengthening personalisation on its platform. Recent updates have introduced smarter playlist tools, personalised genres, and even a voice-enabled DJ. The company noted that most Premium users will gain immediate access to the new feature, though some markets in Asia-Pacific may face slight delays as the rollout continues. The update also positions Spotify in closer competition with Apple Music, which is developing its own AutoMix feature
