PalmPay has deepened its commitment to digital safety and youth empowerment by partnering with the Federal Ministry of Youth Development to launch the Youth Data Protection Awareness and Training (YDPAT) Programme. The initiative, unveiled at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja last week, aims to train over one million Nigerian youths on digital literacy and data protection over the next three years.
With more than 70% of Nigeria’s population made up of young people, the programme is seen as a strategic step towards building a privacy-conscious and digitally skilled generation. Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, described YDPAT as a timely intervention to tackle low awareness of the Nigerian Data Protection Act (NDPA), 2023 and the shortage of certified Data Protection Officers in the country. He lauded PalmPay’s role, noting that the initiative would make Nigeria’s youth globally competitive.
PalmPay’s Managing Director, Mr. Chika Nwosu, reiterated the fintech company’s stance on user privacy, highlighting how data protection is fully integrated into their product development process. He noted that the YDPAT programme also includes mentorship and internship opportunities for outstanding participants, ensuring practical growth avenues beyond classroom learning.
Beyond the training, PalmPay is rolling out youth-focused digital campaigns in Northern Nigeria and plans to expand to other regions. The neobank, which currently has over 35 million app users and processes 15 million daily transactions, continues to provide secure and inclusive financial services in Nigeria, Ghana, Tanzania, and Bangladesh, furthering its mission of driving financial inclusion and innovation across emerging markets.
