Apple has launched the iOS 18.2 public beta, offering a range of AI-driven features that the company believes will enhance user experience across its devices. Among the updates are new tools such as the AI emoji generator *Genmoji*, an image creation app called *Image Playground*, ChatGPT integration with Siri, and a visual search feature using the iPhone 16 camera. Previously, these features were exclusive to developers, but now public beta users can experience them although some will require joining a waitlist.

The AI capabilities, collectively branded as “Apple Intelligence” (or *AI*), promises to make Siri smarter, provide writing and proofreading assistance across apps, and enable creative features like image generation. Apple has also opened the door for third-party developers to integrate these tools into their own apps. This expansion could even unlock even broader functionality.

It will also allow users to request Siri to access information within apps or interact with content on their screen.

Some key features include:

Image Playground: A standalone app that generates images based on user prompts.

Genmoji: A tool for creating custom emojis.

Image Wand: Transforms rough sketches in the Notes app into AI-generated images.

ChatGPT with Siri: Siri now supports a new extension powered by ChatGPT, allowing users to request help with writing, image creation, and more. The feature also includes a history of requests for signed-in users.

IPhone 16 users can also explore using visual Intelligence, a new way to search and identify real-world objects and places through the camera. However, some features remain restricted. Users must first enable Apple Intelligence, and certain tools, like those for image creation, still require users to sign up for access.

However Apple has not provided an estimated wait time, with ske days or even weeks during the beta phase.

The gradual rollout is partly due to AI safety concerns, as evidenced by users creating inappropriate emojis with “Genmoji”, and to ensure a smooth scaling process as the features are refined.

Ahead of iOS 18.2, Apple has introduced writing tools and notification summaries powered by Apple Intelligence in the iOS 18.1 update. In addition to the iOS beta, Apple has also released public betas for iPadOS 18.2, macOS Sequoia 15.2, and tvOS 18.2.
