In a significant update for iPhone users running iOS 18 and later, Snapchat has launched a feature that allows users to replace the traditional flashlight or native camera lock screen shortcut with the Snapchat camera. This integration is designed to simplify the process of capturing moments, enabling users to quickly access the Snapchat camera directly from their lock screens.
Streamlined Access to Snapchat
With this new feature, iPhone users can snap photos or record videos with minimal effort. However, to share these snaps, users must unlock their phones first, ensuring privacy and security. Snapchat reports that over 55,000 Snaps are created every second, indicating the high demand for immediate access to the platform.
Setting up the Snapchat camera shortcut is straightforward:
- Tap and hold on the iPhone’s lock screen.
- Select the “Customize” option.
- Choose “Lock Screen” and remove existing shortcuts.
- Tap the “plus” icon to add the Snapchat camera.
Additionally, iPhone 16 users can customize the Camera Control button to launch Snapchat directly, providing even quicker access.
Continued Enhancements to User Experience
This update is part of Snapchat’s ongoing efforts to utilize new iPhone features. In previous updates, the app introduced customizable lock screen and home screen widgets with iOS 16, and more recently, it enabled iPhone 15 users to customize the Action button to launch Snapchat instantly.
New “Footsteps” Feature Launch
Alongside the camera shortcut, Snapchat has officially launched its “Footsteps” feature, which was initially available only to Snapchat+ subscribers. This feature uses Snap Map to help users track their exploration and travel history, allowing them to see how much of the world they have visited.
To further engage users, Snapchat is also rolling out additional stickers and Halloween-themed AI lenses, enhancing the creative options available within the app.
Snapchat says it is reinforcing its commitment to improving user experience and engagement with the new updates by integrating its camera functionality directly into the iPhone’s lock screen. The platform makes it easier for users to capture and share moments in real-time for social media interaction.
