Home goods manufacturer Kohler has introduced a new health-tracking device called the “Dekoda,” a $599 camera that attaches to a toilet bowl to capture images of its contents. According to CNET, the device analyzes waste to provide insights into gut health, hydration levels, and even detect possible traces of blood. The Dekoda features a rechargeable battery, USB port and fingerprint sensor to identify individual users in multi-person households.

The product is now available for pre-order, with shipments expected to begin on October 21. However, in addition to its upfront cost, buyers will be required to pay a subscription fee ranging from $70 to $156, which covers access to the analysis and health insights generated through the companion platform.

While some consumers have raised concerns about privacy, given the highly sensitive nature of the data being collected, Kohler says the device is engineered with strict safeguards. The company claims the Dekoda “sees only into the toilet and nowhere else,” adding that all user data is protected with end-to-end encryption.

Kohler’s entry into the smart-toilet market reflects a growing trend among tech firms exploring AI-powered health monitoring through bathroom hardware. The company joins startups like Throne, which also offer toilet-based cameras aimed at early detection of digestive issues and other medical conditions
