Brazil’s largest power transmission operator, Eletrobras, has entered into a partnership with U.S.-based C3 AI to integrate artificial intelligence into the management of its electricity network. Under the deal, Eletrobras will deploy the C3 AI Grid Intelligence tool across all its transmission assets to improve real-time monitoring and response to system failures. Although the value of the agreement was not disclosed, both companies confirmed the collaboration on Monday.

According to a joint statement, the use of AI is expected to boost the resilience and reliability of Brazil’s power grid on a large scale by enabling quicker identification and correction of faults. The move comes at a time when utilities worldwide are increasing investments in their networks to cope with complex energy systems and strengthen security against extreme weather disruptions.

Eletrobras executives stressed that the technology would modernise network monitoring processes, allowing for faster, more agile responses to incidents that often threaten stability. One of the critical challenges faced by Brazilian transmission companies is the occurrence of fires near power lines and substations, which can cause widespread outages.

Pablo Flores, Executive Manager of Protection, Automation and Control of Operating Systems at Eletrobras, said the adoption of AI would ensure greater stability and availability across the grid. He added that the partnership reflects the company’s commitment to innovation and safeguarding Brazil’s electricity infrastructure in the face of growing operational demands.
